How did you start your new week? Genesis students from grades 4 to 7 had the exciting opportunity to meet a new “teacher” during the INTERSTELLAR SCHOOL TOUR: ARTVENTURE 2024.
The event kicked off with an impressive introduction featuring Jesse Donaldson-Jarrett’s vocal performance and energetic stage presence, quickly engaging the students with the world of musical theater—a form of art that significantly enhances English language learning. Through activities like Up-down (moving according to commands), Musical Freeze (freezing when the music stops), and Red Light – Green Light (similar to the traditional game “1-2-3”), the students practiced their focus, listening skills, observation, and physical movement in a fun, interactive way. A short musical performance also inspired students to explore the artistic world further.
The session was not only an enriching experience for the students but also offered teachers valuable insights into how to inspire and motivate language learning through engaging activities. The teachers, just like the students, participated naturally and joyfully in the activities during the Interstellar School Tour: Artventure 2024.
Learning through performance supports comprehensive language development. Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills are seamlessly integrated into the situations unfolding on stage. Moreover, learning English through art encourages students to explore their emotions, develop creativity, build confidence, and enhance communication with peers and teachers. This interactive learning method is exciting and well-suited for students of various ages.
Although the interaction was brief, it was enough to spark curiosity and inspire a desire to explore language and the world of art in our Genee students. We look forward to welcoming the Interstellar Musical Society back for future projects with Genesis.
