Learning does not only take place in the classroom but also through real-life experiences. With the aim of deepening students’ understanding of national culture, enhancing observation, practical skills, and teamwork, Grade 4 & 5 Genees embarked on a meaningful journey at Van An Experience Center—where the cultural and intellectual heritage of ancient Vietnam is vividly recreated in a setting close to nature. Here, the Genees participated in a variety of engaging activities centered around three main themes:
- Vietnamese spirit: Students took part in dragon dancing, tug-of-war, and reenacted the role of ancient scholars, immersing themselves in the spirit of unity, resilience, and creativity that has defined the Vietnamese people for centuries.
- Intellectual heritage: Students explored the Dong Son bronze drum, an emblem of early Vietnamese civilization, along with the intricate depictions of daily life found in Dong Ho folk woodblock paintings. These activities provided a deeper appreciation of traditional art and historical narratives.
- Cultural cssence: The serene natural setting of Van An allowed students to unwind while fostering a stronger connection with their environment. Activities such as feeding fish and paddling traditional boats encouraged mindfulness, patience, and an appreciation for the beauty of nature.
These hands-on experiences not only broadened the Genees’ knowledge but also ignited their curiosity and sense of exploration, fostering an awareness of the importance of preserving cultural values. Through each activity, they not only glimpsed into the past but also gained a deeper understanding of cultural conservation in today’s world.
